Have you ever felt empty? Desperate? Friend- I don’t know your current life circumstances, but I know that the struggles of this fallen world often strip us of hope and leave us in despair.
In 2 Kings 4 we find a widow in a desperate situation. Her husband was dead, her debts were overdue, and creditors were threatening to take her children as slaves. I’d say she had valid reasons to be in despair when she turned to the prophet Elisha for help. God had called Elisha to be a prophet like Elijah who displayed His heart of compassion for people. Elisha’s Ministry was characterized by miraculously meeting people’s needs. To resolve the woman’s situation Elisha did not tell her to go seek money from neighbors, but rather to seek EMPTY VESSELS from others in her community. After all had been gathered she poured her available olive oil into the first jar and amazingly the oil continued to fill EVERY available EMPTY VESSEL. She was able to sell the oil to pay for her debts so that she could continue to raise her family. God used the EMPTINESS of other people’s vessels to do His miraculous filling and to bless the widow. If you are empty I would encourage you to ask how God can utilize your Empty vessel to fill someone else. If you are desperate please know that God sent Jesus to pour out His love and His blood so that you could be redeemed from the debt of sin just as the oils redeemed the widow from her earthly debts. 2 Corinthians 5:21 “For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” Let Jesus’ love fill you today and look around you to see how even in your emptiness once God has filled you He will pour out His love from your formerly empty vessel. Be Filled and Have Hope today sweet friend. You are loved with an everlasting love.
