I woke up early this morning and was eager to have some “quiet time” reviewing my Bible Study. It is so nice to get up when everyone is still asleep. The house is awaiting the rush of the day, but right now things are still. Outside I heard the birds looking for food and I am so thankful that my husband filled the birdfeeder last night.
As I sat there with my hands wrapped around my warm coffee cup I saw the sun’s rays peeking out from the darkness. Oh, how I love the sunshine, but as the sun rose higher in the sky the light fully illuminated the room. Suddenly, I noticed the window in my kitchen was really very dirty. The sun rays showed every little spot of dirt and grime that was on the window. I thought I had cleaned it, but then I remembered I washed it in the evening close to nighttime.
That is like our life! If I don’t cleanse my mind of all the worldly problems, I will have dirty spots. I must allow Jesus to shine the light on everything in my sinful nature. I must ask Him for forgiveness as I confess my sins daily. Did I say an unkind word to my husband last night? Did I fuss at the children when I was tired? Did I expect others to let my selfish ways rule? Was I angry at the clerk at the store when I was not waited on promptly?
When I was young, mother use to tell me often, “Try to only keep a short list of things you must confess and ask for forgiveness—otherwise you may have a heavy burden after carrying them several days.” If I am laden down with a long list of sins and shortcomings that I need to ask God for forgiveness, then I may think it will take me all day to confess, so I may want to procrastinate and wait to unburden my soul. If I do that, then Satan has thrown guilt my way. I feel bad about my behavior but rationalize that I can tell God about it later. I must stop and ask God to wash the dirty windows of my heart daily. He will wash and make me white as snow. (Psalm 51:7b)
How about you? Do you have dirty windows in your heart? Are you carrying around burdens that are weighing you down? Ask God to cleanse you! He is faithful and He will lift your burdens and cares. You can know that God forgives and you can start a new day with clean windows! When the windows of your heart are clean the SON shines radiantly through YOU.
